An East Durham College student is getting to grips with life at work in a professional kitchen, after landing an industry placement at Seaham Hall Hotel and Spa.
Lily Cameron, who is studying City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery, is taking part in the college’s industry placement programme. Designed to give students a real taste of working life, the Industry Placement scheme offers extended work experience placements for students at East Durham College.
Lily is working at Seaham Hall’s highly popular Ozone restaurant under the watchful eye of head chef John Carlo Arrojo. Known for its tasty pan-Asian cuisine, the placement at Ozone is ideal for Lily, who has a real passion for Korean food and plans to study Korean after leaving the college.
Michelle Robinson, Industry Placement Coordinator at East Durham College, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Seaham Hall gave Lily the chance to work in their restaurants. Seaham Hall’s restaurants are well known for their high standards and quality food, so this placement really gives our students a chance to see what life is like in a professional kitchen.”
