SEND - Teaching & Training

The College curriculum is broad and teaching styles vary according to the level of the programme and the abilities of the learners.

Teaching & Learning strategies include but are not limited to; 1:1 work, direct teaching & learning, practical skills teaching, self-study and information learning technology.

Group sizes vary, however in Foundation they are small and organised according to learners’ ability & needs.

Comprehensive learning support centres with additional support personnel are situated on the two main campuses. Physical resources include hearing loop systems, large keyboards and monitors, speech software and other assistive technologies.

The College has extensive pastoral support for all learners including a counselling service at both main campuses. All students have a personal learning coach as a point of contact.

All teachers and lecturers are full qualified and specialists in their vocational area. Specialist staff include: Communicators, Counsellors and specialist teaching staff.

There is a comprehensive Professional Development programme for teaching and support staff. A number of staff receive more specialist training.
