On a Customer Service Apprenticeship you will be taught the skills you need to provide excellent customer service. These skills can be applied to hundreds of different job roles across many different sectors, from working in the government to telecommunications. Most customer service apprentices will generally work in retail, financial services, call centres, hospitality or sports and recreation.
Businesses thrive on good customer service. If a customer isn't happy, they won't do business with the company again and no business wants that. Your role as an apprentice is just like a normal job - you'll be expected to be helpful, courteous and work hard to meet the needs of your customers. You'll also gain a wide variety of new skills while working and will be taught by senior staff members as well as your apprenticeship provider to ensure your continuous professional growth.
What Kind of Work Will I Be Doing as a Customer Service Apprentice?
Although work may vary depending on your employer and which sector you find yourself working in, you'll generally be involved in tasks such as dealing with customers in a positive, reliable and pleasant way - whether that's by offering advice, answering questions or handling complaints.
To properly assist customers, you'll need clear and up-to-date knowledge of your organisation's products and services. You'll also need to be comfortable communicating with all sorts of people - you should be confident, friendly and approachable to all customers.
As part of your apprenticeship you'll also be assessed by your apprenticeship provider. You'll be completing a mixture of both practical and theory-based work and may - depending on the role you take - have to come into college on day release for studying.
