As a metal fabricator, you'll be working on such things as rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plates and metal sheets, working with the metal to construct the base materials into a number of different shapes depending upon the needs of the business you're working with.
Metal fabricators are needed in loads of different industries - you could be working in a factory working on specialist equipment, or you could find yourself out on-site working on buildings and bridges. The day-to-day work you'll actually be doing will vary massively depending on the organisation your apprenticeship is with, and there's loads of different opportunities available in this sector too.
As you're coming into the job as an apprentice, you'll be working very closely with experienced members of staff who are responsible for your development, supported by training at East Durham College's fantastic engineering facilities at The Technical Academy.
