At each of its main campuses, East Durham College has a Learning Resources Centre (LRC) that offers a wide variety of study materials and study spaces for students.
The goal of the Learning Resources Centre is to provide students with the necessary space, technology, equipment, and resources to aid in their learning. Our experienced and well-informed staff are always available to assist you in accessing resources and making the most of the facilities available.
Where will you find us?
There is a centre located at each main college site – Willerby Grove (Peterlee) and Houghall (Durham).
What is available at the LRC?
- LRC inductions, study skills and referencing sessions
- Books and journals
- Reference materials
- Newspapers and magazines
- DVDs
- Online resources including magazines and journals
- Access to over 8,000 ebook titles
- Web catalogue to search for resources
- Computers and laptops (including Macs and Microsoft Surfaces)
- Photocopying, printing, binding and laminating services
- Free WiFi so you can work on your own laptop or tablet
- Colour and black and white printers, scanners and photocopiers
- Individual and group study space
- Stationery shop
Staff liaise frequently with college departments to ensure that the latest course-relevant texts are available to students to support their learning. All students will be given an induction to the Learning Resources Centre and are issued with a Student/Library Card which allows access to use the IT facilities and borrow materials.
The LRC Staff
The LRC is run by a fantastic team of dedicated staff, and they are not just there to help you borrow books either. They provide a range of support services, including:
- Searching for and using eBooks and Online Resources
- Support with IT and using the PCs and laptops
- Help with printing, scanning and photocopying
- Proofreading of your work and assignments
- Help with Harvard referencing and research skills
- General support with spelling, grammar and punctuation - even some maths
- And of course, helping you find the books you need and checking them in and out!

Holiday Opening Hours
The LRC is also open throughout the holidays if you want to catch up with your work away from the distractions of home (Closed during the Summer and Christmas break).
