East Durham College is partnering with Sunderland City Council to offer apprenticeships in a range of land-based disciplines.
15 vacancies have been announced working on the city’s seafront, award-winning green flag parks, flowers around the community and some of the city’s sporting grounds for football and cricket.
Applicants can look forward to the level 2 positions in horticulture, fine turf, and arboriculture (tree surgery), offering apprentices the chance to look after some of Sunderland’s best attractions.
The apprenticeships will last 21-22 months with learners spending 1 day a week at East Durham College’s Houghall campus learning the theory behind the practical work they’re doing.
Celebrating the vacancies, Sunderland City Council Deputy Leader, Claire Rowntree said: “Apprenticeships provide great opportunities for people of all ages, at any stage of their career. We see them as an integral part of our workforce strategy and as a career development opportunity for people of all ages.”
"Many of our apprentices go on to a further apprenticeship, secure a job with the council or use the skills and training they gained to do other things. I'd encourage anyone who is interested to apply.”
