East Durham College hosts Team Zambia's boxing training camp ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games

East Durham College was delighted to welcome the The National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia's boxing team for their pre-Commonwealth Games training camp, from 18 to 22 July, in advance of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. 

The boxer are part of a 41 strong team from Zambia who will be competing in athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, judo, rugby sevens, para-powerlifting, squash and swimming at the Commonwealth Games, which begins on 28th July 2022.

The team are based at Durham University and were welcomed to the County at an event help on 17th July at The Sport and Wellbeing Park to officially welcome the Zambian Commonwealth Team. The athletes and officials of the team have been staying at Hatfield College at the university. 

The four boxers are training at East Durham College's Peterlee campus which boasts a large, speciality boxing gym, which houses one of the rings used at the Commonwealth Games when they were last held in England at Manchester in 2002.

The team members competing in athletics, badminton, cycling, judo, para-powerlifting, rugby and squash are all training at Maiden Castle, Durham, with the swimmers training at the Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre.
