Houghall floristry student Angela Wake came 4th in the world skills final. Angela came to Houghall after being unhappy in her career. Fancying a change, she took up Floristry at EDC.
To begin, Angela had to create a wreath whilst following a brief set by WorldSkills, she then had to photograph her wreath and a few weeks later, she found out she had reached the next stage in Sheffield. Angela's brief was to create a flower crown, a long and low table arrangement and a hand tie for a music festival within two hours. Whilst facing strong opposition, upon completing this stage, Angela received an invite to the WorldSkills final!
Being only halfway through her level 2 at this point, Angela praised lecturer Allan Raby, who supported her, putting in extra hours to help teach her new techniques to guide her through the whole process. The final took place in Manchester, and Angela's brief was to design and create a body adornment piece, a floral structure and a piece of jewellery for the grand opening of a boutique hotel!
Angela talked highly about all her lecturers and the positive impact the supportive floristry community has had on her. And When asked what she wants to do in the future, Angela stated that she would love to have her very own shop.
