East Durham College is thrilled to announce that A Level students at the college’s sixth form, ED6, have achieved 100% pass rate this year, the fifth consecutive year that students at the college have achieved this milestone. In addition, all students at the sixth form achieved grades A*-C, with 38% achieving A* grades and 88.46% achieving A*-B.
ED6 Sixth Form, which is part of East Durham College’s Peterlee Campus, has developed a reputation for delivering exceptional pass rates since first opening in 2012.
Suzanne Duncan, Principal of East Durham College, said: “It’s been a challenging year for all of us, but it’s been particularly tough for students who were due to take their exams this year. We’re thrilled that the hard work of our ED6 students has still been recognised and that they have still achieved excellent results, despite all the challenges 2020 has brought.
“I’d like to congratulate not only the students on their hard work, but also our exceptional Sixth Form teaching staff for getting the very best out of students and continuing their education all through the lockdown process via virtual teaching sessions.
“To have 100% pass rate for five years is a testament to the dedication of our incredible staff here in getting the very best out of their students. All of our students, and their families, should be incredibly proud of their achievements, and we look forward to hearing of our students’ continued success as they go on to university or into work.”
Dr. Wanda Scott, head of ED6, added: “Our students have more than met the challenges presented to them and I was thrilled to see their reactions when they collected their results.
“As well as the fantastic pass rate, we are delighted that a good number of students received high grades and almost every student got into their first-choice universities.
“Many of our students are now going off to their chosen universities including the likes of Newcastle, Manchester and Durham. A huge well done to every one of them.”
Jack Maughan, who achieved an A in chemistry, B in physics and a B in maths, is going to Newcastle University to study Chemical Engineering. He said: “My time at ED6 has been very enjoyable. I’m going to miss it and the atmosphere in lessons. The teachers/lecturers were the best and would always do their best. They’d always try their best to make the lessons fun and I think they succeeded very well.”
Tom Clasper, who achieved an A* in chemistry, A in Physics and A in Maths, is also going to Newcastle to study Chemical Engineering. He said: "It’s been the best two years at East Durham Sixth Form. The attention that the lecturers pay to you as an individual and your learning needs is second to none, dedicating their time to you whenever it’s required. It has the best environment both in the classrooms and college in general and has been the best experience from start to finish."
