A World of Pure, Wicked, Curious Imagination as EDC Floristry Students Create Musical-Inspired Displays

If there's one thing you can rely on here at East Durham College, it's for our amazing floristry students to produce some truly stunning designs! They've done just that this previous week, creating some amazing work at St John's Church in Shildon.

The event, which was organised by former EDC floristry student Adele Todd, saw florists from East Durham College's Houghall campus, as well as other groups from the region such as the Women's Institute, church groups and flower clubs, prepare floral designs which were inspired by some of the world's most famous musicals.

Level 3 Floristry students Kevin Taylor, Katie Baties and Sadie Jardine worked on a design inspired by Wicked, the musical based on the Wizard of Oz. Their presentation has the Wicked Witch squashed not by a house, but instead by a beautiful floral display.

It was a very important date (and, thankfully, they weren't late!) for Level 3 students Sue Elsdon, Caroline Holliday and Nicola Young with their incredible Alice in Wonderland-inspired design!

No Oompa Loompas were needed for Level 3 floristry students Allan Raby and Hannah Johnson, who created a fantastic display inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Vicar Rev David Tomlinson said: "Shildon is a town with a strong sense of community and we wanted to celebrate that by drawing in people from across the North-East.

"One of the key organisers Adele Todd called all these people together and it really does look incredible.

"The only problem will be how to fit people in for Sunday service, but it is a nice problem to have!"

The event was open from Friday 4th to Monday 7th May 2018.

Many other musical-inspired floral designs were also present at the event, including designs inspired by The Sound of Music, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera and Joseph and Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Congratulations to all of the students involved with the project, you've produced some truly incredible work!
