Our Learner Support Team
We have a dedicated team of Learner Support staff who provide a highly effective support network across the college. We aim to provide high quality support to students with learning difficulties and disabilities to assist in the delivery of a quality learning experience.
You are usually referred by your tutor after you have had an initial assessment but you can ask for help yourself at any point from applying to the College onwards.
Curriculum Leaders as well as your Progression Coach will act as a link person for ALS and will take responsibility for ensuring your requests are dealt with professionally and efficiently.
For confidential help and advice, please call 0191 518 8284 or 0191 518 5513. Or email the team at als@eastdurham.ac.uk

The Ofsted report highlighted the positive work that goes on in the Additional Learning Support team at the college, saying:
"Leaders and managers ensure that the funding they receive for learners with high needs is used effectively in order to support and meet the needs of individual learners. As a result, learners who have high needs are provided with the specialist support and assistive technologies that they need to engage in learning and to make progress."
