Can't find what you are looking for... Set up your own group
If you feel that there is a missing group to support your interests, you are encouraged to set up one, no matter how niche it may seem. Established ones include our LGBTQ+ Groups and Sports Clubs, but you can always create a new one. Our student community is diverse and lively, so you are likely to find someone with similar interests who can help you get your new activity started.

Involvement in clubs and societies looks really good on your CV.
Demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and self-development are crucial for personal growth. If you're looking to take it up a notch, consider joining your club or society's committee and gain valuable management and leadership experience. Additionally, you can enhance your skill set by joining societies that provide opportunities to learn new skills relevant to your future career.
You can join any time
If you are unable to join a group in your first week, there is no need to worry. You can join up any time. If a group doesn't fit your timetable in term one, you may check back in term two as it may fit then.
Remember, you can get as involved as you like (or not)
At EDC, some students may find themselves deeply invested in their chosen activity and get heavily involved with it. However, it's important to remember that this level of commitment is not compulsory. You are free to casually join in on social events or engage in activities at your own pace. There is no pressure to participate more than you feel comfortable with.
Make Friends. Make Memories.
Joining clubs and societies can be the most amazing addition to your time here at East Durham College. We hear so many students tell us that the friends they made and experiences they had through their involvement in these groups were an absolutely invaluable part of their college experience. Whether you want to join our elite football team, perform on stage in our annual panto, or simply meet like-minded people who share your interests and passions, clubs and societies offer the perfect opportunity to do something amazing!
