Finances Shouldn’t Curtail Your Aspirations

Studying at East Durham is a great investment in your future. We offer a wide variety of courses to match your aspirations, whether you are aiming to progress into employment, an apprenticeship or university.

Regardless of your ambition, finances should not be a barrier. Depending on your age, circumstances, and household income, we have various financial support options available to help you while you're studying. Discover below what support you may be eligible for.

If you are worried that financial constraints may impact your studies at East Durham College, we can provide advice and guidance on the available financial support options.

Financial Support

We offer several financial support options, including student bursary payments.

FREE Bus Service

Thanks to our longstanding partnership with Arriva, we offer free bus travel to and from college for East Durham College students.

Free Meals at College

Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch? There is here, because we offer eligible students (aged 16-18) the choice of a free lunch – or breakfast - every day they are in college to the value of £6 per day.

Students, aged 16-18 (or up to 25 with a statement of special educational needs or education, health and care plan) on or before 31st August, may be eligible for free meals if their parent/carer qualifies via a number of different benefits or has a household income of under £50,000.

Care To Learn

Young parents aged under 20 at the start of their course may be entitled to help with childcare costs of up to £175 per week whilst studying. The childcare provider must be registered with Ofsted.

You can find out more about Care to Learn, including eligibility and how to apply, at gov.uk/care-to-learn.

Learner Support Services

In addition to financial support, East Durham College is here to support you throughout your journey with us in so many other ways. We offer a wide range of learner support services, including:

PLEASE NOTE: Students on apprenticeship programmes, or any waged training, are employed, rather than in education. They are not eligible for the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund. Non-employed students aged 16 to 19 who are participating in a Prince’s Trust Team Programme are eligible to receive the bursary in the same way as any other student participating in an eligible, publicly funded course.
