Floristry & Floral Design

Floristry? A Bloomin' Marvellous Idea!

So, thinking about studying floristry, are you?

We don't blame you - floristry is a fantastic, expressive and creative course where you can learn a huge variety of different techniques to create some truly stunning floral designs.

Whether you just fancy learning a bit of floristry part-time as a hobby or want to get fully into the

floristry industry and have dreams of owning your own florist shop, our courses cater for every learner!

You'll learn it all here at Houghall; techniques and skills you'll learn include hand-tied designs, floral arrangements and wedding, funeral and sympathy designs.

Sounds good, doesn't it? Well, why not see it in action for yourself with our video below all about our floristry courses?

Learning from the Best

We don't like to brag much, but in this case, we're going to have to!

At our Houghall campuses' floristry department you'll be learning from the very best florists - several of our staff are award-winning florists, and our programme area leader won the gold medal and the title of Florist of the Year at the Chelsea Flower Show 2018!

Our lecturers are extremely passionate about floristry and that comes out in every lesson they teach. Learners will benefit from their vast range of expertise, learning the skills they need from time-served professionals.

As part of your studies, you'll also get to show off what you can do as well - students are regularly encouraged to enter competitions such as the Chelsea Flower Show, Harrogate Flower Show, BFA Awards, with great success for EDC students both regionally and nationally.

You may also get the opportunity to take part in various educational visits, including going to Holland to see the largest flower market in the world at Allsmeer, as well as visiting other key industry locations such as flower growers.

Courses for Hobbyists to Serious Florists

At East Durham College's Houghall campus, our floristry courses cater for absolutely everyone. If you want to give it a try, why not sign up for one of our part-time shorter courses and get a taster for what it's all about?

For those seriously interested in getting into the industry, or progressing up the career ladder, EDC is one of the only providers in the north to offer floristry courses from Level 1 all the way up to Level 4 Higher Diploma.

You might be thinking that courses at college are just for younger learners, but our floristry courses are particularly popular with adult learners looking to retrain. In fact, floristry is perhaps one of our biggest areas that attracts adult learners!
