Our Uniformed Public Services course is designed specifically to help you start your career in the public services such as the Police or the forces.
Taught by our highly professional staff, some of whom have worked in the forces themselves, this course will teach you the respect, diligence, hard work and skills you'll need for your future career.
The forces sector is incredibly varied with lots of opportunity; after taking a Uniformed Public Services course, you could work in the Armed Services, HM Customs and Excise, Police, Fire Service, Security Service, Prison Service, Rescue Services and the Coast Guard.

Quality Teaching & Training
We will guarantee you 11 hours of quality teaching and training per week with our specialist lecturer, a former uniformed public service officer, and our qualified outdoor activity and sports instructors who will prepare you physically to join a service.
In order to develop your team working and practical skills you will also experience activities such as mountain walking, orienteering, archery, mountain biking, caving, kayaking and canoeing.
You will also have the chance to visit the public services at their place of work and see what they do on a day-to-day basis. You should have the opportunity to visit:
- A Royal Air Force Base
- A Navy Ship
- Various Police Departments
- A Fire Station
- An Army Base for a week long residential ‘look at life’ course
You will take part in 36 hours of real work experience during the year, working with and learning about the work of the public services.
You can choose if you wish to study for one year on a diploma course or stay for a second year and get the best qualification you can – an extended diploma. Our two year course is equivalent to three A Levels and is a proven route into university or employment.
This course takes place both at our Peterlee and Houghall campus, giving you access to all of the fantastic facilities we have at both campuses!
